Well, I am fairly new at blogging, but I figure that for a girl with an affinity for writing, it should be a breeze–and a blast! I'm writer and aspiring author Alana Parry, and I'm starting now on the long road of drafting, editing, and publication for my proper historical fiction romances. Thus far, it has been quite a trip.
I actually started my writing career in elementary as a fantasy writer. In fact, I absolutely refused to even look at–let alone read–any other genre. I lived and breathed in the world of The Lord of The Rings, Eragon, and The Chronicles of Narnia. I carved myself staffs and swords with runes. And I wanted nothing more than to stand and look dramatic in a long, swirling tunic. This also bred my burning desire to learn the art of fencing–something I would still love to do and have still not accomplished. I even began a novel–about saving the fantasy world from an evil dragon, of course–and got a whole thirty pages in. Funny how it was so easy to write then; I suppose my inner editor hadn't quite caught up with me yet.
It was in 8th or 9th grade, however, through a Seagull Book catalog, that I first took notice of historical fiction. No, I didn't start with Jane Austen or Charlotte Bronte. I started with modern proper romances, and ironically, I fell completely in love myself. Since that wonderful revelation, my writing has taken a dramatic shift. And while I still love to dream up the occasional dragon story, my thoughts now find themselves frequently wandering somewhere in the cobbled streets of 19th century England or adrift on the high seas on Nelson's HMS Victory.
Certainly, my road to becoming a published author is still a long one, but I am excited to be able to share my literary journey with you, and I can't wait to celebrate with you when I become an author and you become my readers!
