It's almost that time again...

Well, as we're rolling around to the end of January, the highlight-of-the-year event draws ever nearer: Teen Author Boot Camp! Anyone who has gone in past years can tell you that it is a blast! Put on by the Writer's Cubed group, TABC is an event held at the Utah Valley Convention Center in Orem, Utah, where teens 13-19 can mingle with fellow writers and take classes from popular published authors on a wide range or writing topics, including screen-play writing and as of this year, song writing. Admission is only around $60 to $70 (depending on when you register), but having been a participant in past years, I can testify that it's worth it! With admission comes a TABC t-shirt, drawstring backpack, notebook, lunch, and snacks, as well as a few sponsored goodies.
And this year's keynote speakers are ones you won't want to miss– Dan Wells, author of "Partials" and "I Am Not A Serial Killer", will be joined by Margaret Peterson Haddix (who writes the popular "Shadow Children" series, in addition to many other best-sellers) for the morning and afternoon keynotes. And of course, you'll also want to be sure to be there for the book signing at the end, where you can buy or bring in your own books to be signed by your favorite authors.
Finally, before you jump on your computer and go to teenauthorbootcamp.com and register, you'll want to send in your most riveting first chapter to TABC's annual First Chapter Contest. As of this year, registered attendees can submit their first chapter for $5 for a chance to win $100, a full critique by a member of Writer's Cubed, and for the high school division, a picture with a top literary agent–a great way to get your foot in the door for publishing! (Update: The deadline for this year's First Chapter Contest has already passed, but you can try your hand at it next year!)
I'm super excited for this year's Teen Author Boot Camp, and I hope to see you all there soon!
